The second episode of Sauce The Game has been released. This episode takes a look at Open Arena a free and Open Source alternative to the hugely popular Quake 3. It is based off the Quake 3 engine just like Tremulous.

Feel free to leave a comment of constructive criticism, did having more video footage of the actual game make the episode better? Having a demo of the game playing on the screen next to me improve things.

Is it just me or did all those shots involve you getting killed? :P

Awesome work Qwerty. This episode was a definite improvement over the last one. Can’t wait to see the next ep

Still learning leilei wasn’t trying to make it look bad or anything. Just the map that was on the server at the time.

Hope you don’t mind too much.

Loved the video - Open Arena is a great game and your review seemed really well thought out.

But come on… you’re playing video games not reading a serious news report. They’re supposed to be *fun*, lighten up a little. Maybe some dancing like Drifter suggested :P

Anyway, I will be watching out for more videos in future, great stuff.

Thanks for the comment Hazel, perhaps Drifter is right and I need to put my dancing shoes on.

I have some plans to spruce up the next episode make things more entertaining. Hopefully not lame :P

Open source games = cool!
Windows media files = uncool!

Try divx in avi containers if you want good technology or theora in ogg containers if you want free technology.

I just don’t get it why people use Microsoft or RealMedia formats and codecs. Sucks big time.

I’ve been waiting for someone to exactly this type of website! thanks Qwerty_ *thumbs up*

Maybe next ep you can try not to sound like a news reporter and just talk as you would normally about the games :D and one more then I have to agree with The Dudemeister about Windows media files = VERY UNCOOL!!!!! I would suggest theora ogg, I found avidemux to be a good program to encode things/video editing.

Keep up the good stuff

Thanks for your suggestions. I will have to look into avidemux to edit the episodes. So I can export them in different formats, unless I just use ffmpeg to re-encode in different formats.

As others have stated, you need to lighten up a bit imo.

You seem to write all to be said before recording. If that is the case, I think you should mentally prepare the subjects to be talked about beforehand.. Ie. do a “subject checklist” in your head, or write that down, rather than write, then read, the show word for word. I think that would make it seem a lot less “forced”.

I don’t think it would be much of a problem if the shows are a bit longer because you use a checklist, as they are already a bit short imo (only a bit though).

I guess you could also do most of the talking about the game while watching ingame footage, as the newsreader effect is less apparant when you do that imo. Like, we’ll only see you during the intro and outro or something like that. I wouldn’t mind if it was all ingame footage really, unless you have a guest or something who want to be seen ;)

All that said, this is a great initiative, and you’re doing good for a newbie :P GJ!
